The Library of the Story for the History of Mediterranean Europe of the CNR consists of two specialised libraries in the Cagliari and Milan offices.

The Institute’s library holdings comprise approximately 50,000 volumes, including monographs, miscellanies and periodicals, which are stored in the specialist libraries at the two locations. Because of their status, the library’s holdings are reserved for CNR staff, Isem associates, Italian and foreign university lecturers, personnel training at Isem and the universities: accredited undergraduates, doctoral students, scholarship holders, trainees, and anyone else who requests it.

Equipment for the reproduction, including digital reproduction of library material, is available to users as long as it complies with the law in force to protect copyright. The library’s holdings cover the following thematic areas: Political, institutional, social and cultural history of Mediterranean Europe, particularly Iberian Europe; geographical discoveries, Iberian and Ibero-American languages and literature; historical geography, cartography; history of Spanish Italy; palaeography and diplomatics, source editions, medieval and modern Sardinian history.


Biblioteca ISEM – Cagliari

The Cagliari Library is the only one in the region specialised in the political, institutional, economic and social history of medieval and modern Mediterranean Europe, with a particular focus on the Italian kingdoms belonging, between the 14th and 16th centuries, to the Crown of Aragon and the Crown of Spain (kingdoms of Sardinia, Sicily and Naples). In via di allestimento presso la Sede secondaria di Roma, dedicata al grande storico  Luigi De Rosa. Il fondo principale, specializzato in storia economica, è frutto del suo lascito. Altri nuclei librari, costituiti da collezioni di riviste scientifiche e monografie, riguardano le diverse materie storiche e le discipline affini.
