The Cagliari Library is the only one in the region specialised in the political, institutional, economic and social history of medieval and modern Mediterranean Europe, with a particular focus on the Italian kingdoms belonging, between the 14th and 16th centuries, to the Crown of Aragon and the Crown of Spain (kingdoms of Sardinia, Sicily and Naples).

Monographs and Miscellaneous

Approximately 30,000 European, particularly Iberian and Italian monographs on medieval and modern Mediterranean history, in several languages.

Periodicals

About 200 periodicals resulting from exchanges with Italian and foreign organisations and institutions, concerning the history of Mediterranean Europe from the Middle Ages to the Contemporary age, in various languages.

Collections

Prof. Alberto Boscolo Collection (1920-1987). About 4,000 volumes, including monographs, series, periodicals, dictionaries and abstracts, which were donated in 1992 by the Boscolo family. Of particular note are the volumes on the medieval history of the Kingdoms of the Crown of Aragon and those on discoveries in Latin America.

Microfilm and Microfiche

Approximately 20,000 frames of unpublished documentary sources preserved in central Italian and European archives (to name a few: Archive of the Crown of Aragon, National Archive of Madrid, National Archive of Simancas).
Library access is by appointment only after consulting the online catalogue. Borrowing is not allowed but only consultation on the premises; reproduction is permitted in compliance with the law in force for copyright protection.
